#806: Only Angels Have Wings

HOWARD HAWKS

1939

I loved being an English major, but the reason I chose it because I figured that studying film would be no fun for someone who was already spending so much time studying it on his own.  I enjoyed being schooled on how wrong I was, and the film I remember that I loved discovering in my first film class was one of Howard Hawks’ most admired and yet surprisingly least remembered.  I asked my friend Joel Giroux on to talk to me about the value of the film as well as why it is that it is not as discussed as Scarface or His Girl Friday.
