#082: Hamlet

criterion82LAURENCE OLIVIER

1948

While Henry V touches off my happy memories of treading the boards, Hamlet is appropriate for discussing my experiences in theatre in more than just my capacity as an actor.  Acting, for me, is hard work but elating pleasure, while writing is torture, and looking back on my experiences in putting into production takes me to places not quite as dark as the Great Dane goes, but all the same I get why he paces so much.
