There’s nothing more dangerous than comedy, and you realize this when you look at what happens when you make a joke about something that people don’t think is funny. Religion is something that frequently touches a sore spot, and Monty Python learned this the hard way when their best film, meant to be a lampoon of the religious epics that the members had enjoyed as kids, was taken as a sacrilegious insult to Christian belief. For this episode, I had the pleasure of my friend Michael Sheffer telling me about his experience discovering this movie as a youngster.
