#029: Picnic At Hanging Rock

criterion29PETER WEIR

1975

Australia was always high on my list of dream destinations, but its distance from home always made it seem an impossible dream to accomplish until that most wonderful of reasons to visit presented itself: my friend was getting married.  When she asked me about things I wanted to do while we were there, I had only one thing on my list.  I had loved Peter Weir’s adaptation of Joan Lindsay’s mystical novel for years, and I wanted to see Hanging Rock for myself.  Going there brought the film vividly to life and only increased my appreciation of this magical movie.
