#008: The Killer

criterion8JOHN WOO

1989

John Woo’s Hollywood career that movie fans loved so much in the nineties was primarily the result of two of his Hong Kong action films gaining an international reputation.  Criterion did a wonderful thing by putting The Killer and Hard Boiled out so early in the series, but thanks to some licensing snafus unfortunately let them go out of print a long time ago.  As a result, both film editions (one of which I purchased at a VERY high price in an online auction) are grainy looking and are not formatted for widescreen TVs.  Still classics, though, and are fun to rewatch and talk about.
