#006: Beauty And The Beast

criterion6JEAN COCTEAU

1946

What does it mean to be beautiful?  It’s likely that only people who don’t find themselves beautiful would know.  Jean Cocteau was perpetually obsessed with beauty as a subject matter and it frequently made its way into his movies as something he was dazzled by without ever being embittered.  His adaptation of Madame Leprince de Beaumont’s most famous fairy tale is the best version out there, and I had the pleasure of asking actor, composer and fellow podcaster Kristen Zaza to talk to me about whether or not she agrees.
